The fast bowler Poised for a Major Role in Ashes Series

Australian cricket captain

The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 five-day games with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chair of selectors the selector has confirmed that captain Pat Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming England-Australia contest.

Speculation had been growing that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on November 21 in Perth.

Bailey expressed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the prospects of being involved.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations at play, not just the physical problem, but additional elements," the selector added.

"We're encouraged. There's strong faith that he's going to play a key capacity. With luck from the opening match. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."

Injury History

He was sidelined the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after scans revealed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of spinal problems, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of several home seasons in four years.

The bowler mentioned he would be bold in recovery efforts in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the contest.

Bailey noted that it was unclear if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to recover fully for the first Test.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will take over the captaincy.

The talented all-rounder was withdrawn recently from the national team for their ODI contests against India as a preventive step because of an abdominal issue.

Bailey described it as a "small issue and confirmed that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to participate for the first Test as an batting and bowling option," Bailey explained.

"He was only going to play the first two ODIs anyway. His aggressive style the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
