The star has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the UK's small music venues.

The star was presented with the prize on October 16 as his new release People Watching was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages had in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the gigs I played around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Fender also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist numerous local spots across the UK.

The donation supported spaces that were dealing with possible closure due to issues arising from floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Other venues received financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The idea that funds from concerts in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

The musician is far from the only musician to contribute his honor winnings to worthy causes.

When they received the award in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman the singer stated that the group would donate their winnings to the organization the charity.

That year, rapper and singer the artist shared her bounty across multiple charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"I also gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," the artist shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the community center that supported their band, in addition to other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients M People gave their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," said artist the singer. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched somebody else's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had rescued two grassroots venues in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in the city and the other in that location were acquired under the community ownership scheme, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
